Surface user guide

Choices...

The Choices dialogue box is shown below.

The following settings are currently available.

Default graph size
This setting determines the size of the surface plot, given in OS units. An OS unit is 1/180 inch, and for most normal displays, 1 pixel spans 2 OS units.
Grid line width
This determines the width of the grid lines used to join the network points in the surface display. The width is measured in points.
Use thin lines on vdu
If this is selected then the grid lines as displayed on the vdu will be drawn at 1 pixel width. In general, lines much less than 1 point in width will be less than 1 pixel in width, leading to gaps or even complete loss of the line when displayed on-screen. When printing, or saving in draw file format, the line width as set above will be used, even if this option is ticked.
Drag to surface window overwrites
If this is ticked, then dropping a data file on to an open surface display will replace the current surface with the new one. If unticked, then a new surface window will be opened.
Auto launch 3DFNEdit
If this is selected, then 3DFNEdit will be installed on the iconbar whenever Surface is run. If not ticked, then 3DFNEdit can be run from the iconbar menu when required.
Quit 3DFNEdit when Surface quits
If this is selected, then 3DFNEdit will be quit whenever Surface is quit. If not ticked, then 3DFNEdit will remain on the iconbar until manually quit.

The choices dialogue has a set of action buttons at the bottom of the window.

The actions available are:

Set
This will store the new settings, which will be used for all future operations. Note that graphs already displayed may not be changed.
Save
This will store the new settings, as in Set above, and will also save the settings to disc, so they will be used when Surface is run in the future.
Cancel
Close the dialogue and ignore any changes made since it was opened.

These pages are best viewed in a CSS compliant browser. For RISC OS, Netsurf would be the browser of choice.
